Mowing too short damages grass root systems, thins the lawn, decreases disease resistance, and increases your weed population. What we practice at Urban Landworks, is to cut your turf at the height of at least 3 inches for the spring and try not to cut off more than 1/3 of the grass blade per mowing (we try to cut when your grass is 4-5 inches high during the growing season). We keep our cutting blades sharp (sharpen daily), and do not collect your clippings (after Spring Yard cleanups), as they return nutrients to the soil as they decompose.
